“Planet of the Sharks” is a 2016 American science fiction action film directed by Mark Atkins.

Set in a dystopian future where global warming has melted the polar ice caps, approximately 98% of Earth’s landmass is submerged underwater.

In this aquatic world, sharks have become the dominant predators, operating as a massive school led by a mutated alpha shark.

The remaining human survivors inhabit scattered floating settlements, constantly threatened by these predators.

The narrative follows a group of scientists and survivors who devise a plan to launch a rocket equipped with a COβ‚‚ scrubber to reverse the effects of global warming and reduce the water levels. However, they must first confront the alpha shark that leads the predatory schools.

The film features Brandon Auret as Dillon Barrick, Stephanie Beran as Dr. Shayne Nichols, and Lindsay Sullivan as Dr. Roy Shaw.

Produced by The Asylum, known for creating mockbusters, “Planet of the Sharks” draws inspiration from films like “Waterworld” and “Planet of the Apes,” presenting a low-budget, action-packed narrative.

Upon its release, the film received criticism for its subpar CGI effects and acting performances. Some reviewers noted that while the premise had potential, the execution resulted in unintentional humor due to its low production quality.

In 2017, a sequel titled “Empire of the Sharks” was released, continuing the storyline in this shark-dominated, water-covered world.
