Posted on June 1, 2025

a 2016 American historical drama film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Jay Cocks and Scorsese, based on the 1966 novel of the same name written by Shūsaku Endō. Starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano and Ciarán Hinds.

Second half of the 17th century. Two young Portuguese Jesuits travel to Japan in search of their mentor, the well-known missionary Father Ferreira. Latest rumors indicate that, after being persecuted and tortured, Ferreira has renounced his faith, something hard to believe for priests who embark on his quest. In Japan they themselves will live the plea and violence with which the Japanese authorities persecute Christians, whom they torture to apostate or die.
