Unstoppable 2 takes place a decade after the original events. Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington) has retired, while Will Colson (Chris Pine) has become a senior railroad engineer. When a new AI-operated train system is introduced, it promises to revolutionize railway safety.
However, a rogue cyber-terrorist hacks into the system, sending a massive freight train carrying hazardous chemicals on a collision course with a major city.
Frank is called out of retirement by Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson) when Will and a rookie engineer find themselves aboard the runaway train with no manual override. As they race against time, Frank guides them remotely while uncovering a shocking conspiracy: the attack was an inside job, orchestrated by corrupt executives trying to profit from disaster relief contracts. In a high-speed climax, Will and the rookie derail the train just outside the city, saving thousands. The film ends with Frank walking away, leaving behind a legacy as the man who stopped two unstoppable trains.
